HEPiX Spring 2025 Workshop

Event and Target Audience

The HEPiX workshops bring together worldwide information technology staff working with scientific computing and data challenges. The event is addressed to system administrators, system engineers and managers from High Energy Physics and Nuclear Physics laboratories and institutes. The goal is to foster sharing of knowledge and experience between sites.

Participating sites include BNL, CERN, DESY, FNAL, IHEP, IN2P3, INFN, IRFU, JLAB, KEK, LBNL, NDGF, NIKHEF, PIC, RAL, SLAC, TRIUMF, and many other research labs and universities from all over the world.

The agenda of the meeting will be available on the  HEPiX Web site  closer to the event dates.

All participants are required to register for the event.  The registration rate comprises access to all sessions, coffee breaks, lunches, and a social evening event (attendance to the dinner needs to be confirmed via the registration form).

Venue

In order to offer a good atmosphere for this week-long event, we have chosen Hotel de la Paix in Lugano, Switzerland, only minutes by foot to the scenic Lake of Lugano.

Registration fees

All participants are required to register for the event.  The registration rate comprises access to all sessions, coffee breaks, lunches, and a social evening event (attendance to the dinner needs to be confirmed via the registration form).

• Early registration fee (by February 14, 2025): CHF 350.00
• Late registration fee (by March 14, 2025): CHF 450.00

Accommodation

In order to assist participants in their search for a hotel in Lugano during the touristic season, we have made a room block booking at Hotel de la Paix, where the event will be held.

There are 30 rooms blocked for this event at the venue. Rooms range from CHF 159 (single) – 169 (double room for single use) per night per person with breakfast.

The room block will be released on February 23, 2025.  We cannot guarantee room availability after this date.

If you wish to stay at the hotel where HEPiX will be hosted, you can request a room from our block reservation. Please contact the hotel (booking@delapaix.ch) to make your individual booking and remember to mention that you are a participant in the HEPiX forum.

Single room for single use: CHF 159/night
Double room for single use: CHF 169/night
Double room for double use: CHF 204/night

These rates include breakfast, service and VAT. Tourists have to pay taxes per person/night in the amount of CHF 6.20. These taxes include the Ticino Ticket – which gives free access to all busses and trains in the Ticino area and several discounts on museums and other tourist attractions. You can extend your stay over the weekend at the same rate, if you so wish and provided that the hotel has availability to host you.

Note that April marks the beginning of the touristic season in Lugano. Even if you decide to overnight at a different hotel, we recommend that you promptly make your arrangements for your stay in the area.

Travels

The region is served by Milan Malpensa airport (Italy) and by Zurich airport. The train timetable from either of these airports to Lugano main train station (“Lugano, stazione”) is available here. You should calculate a ride of approximately 2h from Malpensa airport and of 2h30 from Zurich airport.

The FFS, the Swiss railroad network, is extremely widespread and permits one to travel throughout the country.

From Lugano train station (“Lugano, stazione”), you may take bus number 2 heading towards “Paradiso” and get off at bus stop “Lugano, Santa Brigitta.” The hotel lies 50m further down the road on the left-hand side.
