EuroHack19: GPU Programming Hackathon

The Swiss National Supercomputing Centre is pleased to announce that the fifth GPU-programming EuroHack will be held from September 30 to October 04, 2019 at the Hotel De La Paix  in Lugano, located in the Italian area of Switzerland.

DATES

30.09.2019 - 04.10.2019
There will be an icebreaker on Sunday, 29.09.2019 in Lugano (location to be announced in a separate email).

TEAMS

Your team should consist of minimum 2 to maximum 4 developers. Due to funding restrictions it is not possible to invite more than 4 participants per team.

PARTICIPATION COSTS

Participation in the workshop is free of charge. Access to the supercomputers throughout the event is offered by the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). The meeting room, lunches and one conference dinner, as well as mentors and learning materials are provided by CSCS and NVIDIA (an official event sponsor). Other partner organizations also provide their support by mentoring the teams.

Participants are responsible for their travels to the meeting venue, their accommodation, 4 dinners during the week, and personal expenses.

In order to offer a good atmosphere for a week of intense programming, we have chosen Hotel De La Paix in Lugano, Switzerland, only minutes by foot to the scenic Lake of Lugano.

ACCOMMODATION

If you wish to stay at the hotel where the Hackathon will be hosted, you can request a room from a block reservation. Please contact the hotel (booking@delapaix.ch) to make your individual booking and remember to mention that you are a participant in the EuroHack 2019.

Single room for single use: CHF 150/night
Double room for single use: CHF 155/night
Double room for double use: CHF 210/night

These rates include breakfast, service and VAT. Tourists have to pay taxes per person/night in the amount of CHF 6.10. These taxes include the Ticino Ticket – which gives free access to all busses and trains in the Ticino area and several discounts on museums and other tourist attractions.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

Lugano is easy to reach with several means of public transportation.

• Airplane

Malpensa Airport (MXP, Milan, Italy) is 1 h 20 min drive from Lugano. An express shuttle bus connects Lugano main station to Malpensa Airport. Make sure you book the shuttle in advance. Go to the Malpensa Shuttle website to view the timetable and make a reservation online.

Zurich Airport (ZRH) is a 2 h 40 min train ride from Lugano.

Lugano also has a local airport (LUG).  While continental flights to LUG tend to be more expensive than to MXP or ZRH, it can in some cases be a viable choice.

• Rail

The FFS, the Swiss railroad network, is extremely widespread and permits one to travel throughout the country.
